- DataCross is a non-profit, charitable association, with no religious or political affiliation. DataCross is an inclusive association, and does not discriminate on any basis.
- DataCross will not compete with commercial Data Science (DS) enterprises. We will provide DS services to entities that would not otherwise purchase these services; for example, because they lack the resources. The services we provide would not otherwise have been delivered on a for-cost basis.
- The goal of DataCross is to maximise the impact of the volunteer DS services we provide. We will choose projects according to the impact we can produce directly for the NGO, and indirectly by improving the impact of the NGO itself.
- DataCross will multiply the impact of our partner NGOs. We will operate as independently as possible, and will not take effort away from the charitable work of our partner organisations.
- Community events will be as widely accessible as possible, and will be free of charge whenever practical. Community events will be provided as a charitable exercise to the wider DS community, to provide networking opportunities for our volunteers.
- Donations and public funds will be used to ensure DataCross is sustainable. All income to the association will be invested in meeting the association’s charitable aims. No payments will ever be made back to donors in the sense of an investment or similar.
- Funds will not be transferred to partner organisations; instead services are provided to NGOs and charitable organisations on an in-kind basis.
- When receiving donor funds, DataCross will be sensitive to issues of “green-washing”. NGOs will be consulted as to which donors they receive indirect support from.
- DataCross will establish an advisory board to steer our activities, consisting of senior representatives from the philanthropic sector, from academia and from the data industries.
