Action4Diabetes (A4D) has collected longitudinal health data on Type 1 diabetes incidence and provision of medical supplies in South-East Asian lower–middle income countries. We are supporting A4D to use their data more efficiently by centralising their data into a database, analysing the data and presenting insights and visualisations to highlight both the impact of their activities, and the value of the longitudinal health data.
The first draft of the centralised data structure and data cleaning scripts are already delivered. Aligning new data to the existing data structure and creating the most value from this data for A4D is the goal of the next phase of this project.
We are currently building a team for phase two of this project. Positions are available for both team lead and volunteer data scientist roles. The project phase will run for 6 months, with an expectation of 4 hours per week for each volunteer.

Action4Diabetes provides access to essential life-saving medical supplies and healthcare services to 650+ disadvantaged children and young people with Type 1 diabetes across South-East Asia. Since 2015 they have expanded to 28 sites from Myanmar to Vietnam, and provided more than 60’000 insulin doses to patients in need. Action4Diabetes also supports patient education, and engages in building health capacity by training doctors and nurses.
The tracking of each individual patient's health status is at the center of A4D's Clinic Support Programme to ensure prompt action can be taken as necessary and data collected will also be used at the regional level to inform policy makers and support publications, as literature in this field is currently lacking. Tracking the organisation's impact demonstrated their critical role in ensuring patients receive the essential medical support they need to survive, helping to secure the vital funding required for operations to continue.
